On February 27, 2019, in the Russian New University (RosNOU) held a lecture "The Roots of Japanese Aesthetics" (the second one in the series of lectures on Japan >>>).
The lecture was organized by the Center for Asia-Pacific Region of RosNOU. Tatiana Naumova – the curator of cultural projects, Orientalist, specialist on Japan – became a speaker again.
The event was attended by students and teachers of the university, as well as guests interested in learning Japanese culture.
– The event went very well! – told the organizer of the event, a Project Development Manager of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate of RosNOU, Ksenia Masterkova. – Tatiana is a professional, an interesting lecturer, a well-known specialist in the Japanese language field.
At the lecture “The Roots of Japanese Aesthetics” Tatiana Naumova managed to immerse the audience in the atmosphere of Japan. It was an interesting presentation with the video sequence, which explained the Japanese love and respect for nature, the influence of religious beliefs on the aesthetic perception of this nation. Tatiana Naumova put forward the main categories that are an integral part of Japanese aesthetics: the concept of emptiness in space, the priority of the implicit over the explicit, the attitude to light and shadow, the ephemeral nature of beauty. There was an attention to the concepts of mono no aware, yugen and wabi sabi. At the end of the lecture, Tatiana Naumova conducted with the audience the poetic game Renga, going back to its roots to the aristocratic fun of the Middle Ages.
