On December 24, 2019, a delegation of the University of Hokkaido (Japan) visited the Russian New University (RosNOU).
Representatives of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate of RosNOU discussed with the Japanese delegation the prospects for exchanging students and teachers, summer language schools, double degree programs, organizing internships for Russian and Japanese students and holding joint events.
“The main goal of our visit is to strengthen relations with a Russian university and begin practical steps to exchange students and teachers,” – said Kato Hirafumi, professor at Hokkaido University and director of the Center for Development of Cooperation between Russian and Japanese Universities. “In Japan, foreign languages are taught, but students lack practice. Therefore, it is important that the university where Russian is taught has an atmosphere of the language being studied and there are reasons for its daily use.”
“We found incredible interest of the Russian public in the culture of Japan,” said Ksenia Masterkova, a Project Development Manager of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate of RosNOU. “We started to conduct educational events about Japan, and this attracted not only our students, but also interested in Japanese culture people. Since then, we have been trying in every possible way to warm up this interest.”
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate of RosNOU George Gabrielian thanked the guests for the visit:
“The Russian New University is interested in giving an opportunity to our first-year linguists, studying Japanese as the first foreign language, to practice the language in Japan in the next spring. We hope that our cooperation will develop and we will do everything possible to disseminate information about new opportunities among our colleagues from the Association of Private Universities in Russia.”
