On 25 July 2016 the International Information Services Group "Interfax" published the rating of research activities of Russian Universities prepared in the framework of the National Rating of Universities -2016.
The Lomonosov Moscow State University gained the 1st position in the rating, the second position went to the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute), and the third went to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). The Russian New University (RosNOU) occupied the 106th position on aggregate of all research activities.
In total, the National Rating included 238 Russian universities, 234 out of them are state universities and only 4 of them are private (non-state) institutions: they are RosNOU, New Economic School * (30th place), St. Petersburg Academic University (168th place) and the Moscow Institute of Technology (238 place).
*New Economic School (NES) – Private educational institution of higher education, founded by the The Central Economic Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CEMI) and the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
