On July 7, 2020, Russian New University (RosNOU) took part in the Fifth Forum of University Rectors of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was held in an online format.

The Forum was attended by seven leading Russian and seven leading Iranian universities. The academic community of the two countries discussed key issues of the development of the Russian-Iranian partnership in the field of science and education.

Welcoming the participants of the Forum, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov noted that Iran is a traditional partner in the field of educational cooperation, under which Iranians are given the opportunity to study annually at the best universities in Russia. So, in the 2020/2021 academic year, 90 quotas were allocated from the federal budget for their training.

The Fifth Forum of University Rectors of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the online format, was the most representative of the previous ones.

In addition to the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, welcoming words were made by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran Mansour Gholami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Iran Levan Dzhagaryan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali, Senior Advisor to I.R. of Iran Foreign Minister, Mehdi Sanaei (Honorary Professor of RosNOU).

Rector of RosNOU, Chairman of the Association of Non-State Higher Education Institutions of Russia Vladimir Zernov spoke about the prospects for developing cooperation between RosNOU and Iranian partners.

“Iran is a country with centuries-old traditions, history, and education. Russia is a world leader in technology development. The combination of the two countries will enhance the synergistic effect of a consortium of scientists, teachers, and the public and take a leading position in the world in many areas of activity. Being practically in the same difficult conditions, our countries need to develop new ways of cooperation in the field of science and education in order to maintain close ties,” – said the rector of RosNOU. “This year we plan to sign agreements with a number of Iranian universities on the implementation of distance learning programs with elements of field practices. The starting point will be the launch of the preparatory department program, which will include language training and specialized disciplines for continuing education in Russia. We considered that a format where 60% of the time is distance learning and 40% full-time learning in Russia will be optimal for such a program.”

f52c4aaf-fb43-4344-a02e-12e4ca51715cAs part of his speech, Vladimir Zernov congratulated the president of the University of Tehran Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi with a high position in the Moscow International Ranking “Three University Missions” and invited other Iranian universities to take an active part in it.

Besides, the rector of RosNOU supported the proposal of Iranian colleagues to conduct joint research and implement scientific developments aimed, inter alia, to combat the COVID-19 virus. At the disposal of RosNOU, there are already several innovative digital medicine devices that require clinical trials in order to further put them into practice.

The head of the RosNOU’s partner university – President of K.N. Toosi University of Technology prof. Farhad Yazdandoost reported on promising university projects in which a partnership with RosNOU will make an important contribution to the development of distance learning programs.
