From May 8 to 10, 2019, the IREG Conference with the theme “Rankings: A Challenge to Higher Education?” was held at the University of Bologna (Italy). The conference was attended by representatives of international and national ratings, the university community and the media.
The Russian New University (RosNOU) was represented by Rector Vladimir Zernov and Head of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate George Gabrielian.
“Today the most popular world rankings – ARWU, THE and QS – almost do not affect the social role of universities,” said George Gabrielian. – But they are already ready to change. Probably, soon we will see rankings updated with new data. Active discussions are currently underway on what the ranking criteria should be in order for the assessment of the university’s social mission to be qualitative and objective.
IREG is an international association for ranking organizations and universities. RosNOU has been a member of IREG since 2014 and annually participates in IREG conferences.
