On November 13, 2019, a meeting of the leadership and students of RosNOU and the professor of the Institute of Russian Culture named after Yu.M. Lotman of the Ruhr University (Bochum, Germany) Klaus Vashik was held at the Russian New University (RosNOU).
The meeting participants discussed trends and new technologies in education and training.
“There is a significant change in the value of training foundations,” said Klaus Vashik. “Studying is no longer interpreted as an expansion of personality. For modern young people, education is an investment in the future; they evaluate how much they invest and how much they will receive. Credit units are the currency of this investment. In addition, the readiness for long-term studies decreases; young people set specific goals and want everything that they learn to help get closer to it; they require functionality and individualization from training. The so-called “learning on demand” is growing. The easiest way is using YouTube. Today you can find out anything there. The German government has decided to allow teachers to use YouTube teaching material; there are quite a few reputable channels that provide really reliable information.”
The professor also noted such trends as the development of learning environments and personalized teaching aids, the growing role of virtual and augmented reality in educational technologies, and the increasing share of mobile learning.
“The university, as the main source of education, has real and dangerous competitors, it will soon cease to be monopolists in this area,” – Klaus Vashik emphasized.
The professor also introduced an interactive learning environment for acquiring reading skills in foreign languages LesenHQ.
