On October 20, 2016, University of Tehran hosted the 2nd Rector’s Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities. The Forum was organised by the Russian Rectors Union and Rectors Summit of Leading Universities of Iran. The main objectives of the Forum were to deepen and enlarge cooperation in the sphere of science and education, to develop associations of leading universities of Russia and Iran, to launch joint projects, and to coordinate scientific researches.
Among the participants in the Forum were the Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technologies Mohammad Farhadi, President of the Russian Rectors Union, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichiy, Rector of University of Tehran Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Iran Levan Dzhagaryan, 13 rectors of leading Iranian universities and 19 Russian universities.
The main programme of the Forum included three plenary sessions dedicated to scientific and educational cooperation of universities and their competition capacity boosting, mechanisms of Iranian universities’ participation in an international rating with headquarters in Moscow, experience in university management, challenges of training specialists for innovative economy and the role of research parks in development of universities.
The Forum resulted in signing about 40 agreements on cooperation and memorandums of understanding between Russian and Iranian universities. Russian New University signed memorandums of understanding with three top Iranian universities: Allameh Tabatabaei University, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and University of Isfahan.
During their stay in Iran, RosNOU delegation also visited Islamic Azad University, a long-time partner of RosNOU. The meeting was held at the university’s North Tehran Branch in the central scientific research lab. RosNOU’s Rector Prof. Vladimir Zernov, Director of International Affairs & Academic Mobility Department George Gabrielian and International Project Administrator Dr. Elahi met with the Director General for International Relations of Islamic Azad University Dr. Ebrahimi. The parties informed each other of the current progress in their collaborative work, summed up the results of the previous academic year and set new goals for this academic year.
